Most Sandton residents do not realise they are on City Power. That changes how load shedding works, what app to use, and what recourse you have when the power goes out.
Sandton, Rosebank, Morningside, and Bryanston all fall under City Power, the City of Johannesburg's electricity distribution entity. Load shedding in these areas is implemented by City Power, which takes bulk supply from Eskom and then distributes outages across its own zone system.

Why your Eskom Se Push schedule may not match your outage
The Eskom Se Push app does include City Power schedule data, but updates can lag by 30 to 90 minutes when City Power makes real-time changes to its rotation. The most accurate source for Sandton outage timing is the City Power app or the City Power schedule page at citypower.co.za. For fault reporting during an unscheduled outage, the City Power fault line is 0860 562 874.
Backup power in Sandton complexes: what to expect
High-end complexes in Sandton Central such as The Leonardo have generator backup for common areas, lifts, and sometimes individual units. Michelangelo Towers has standby generators for common areas. For individual units without built-in backup, portable inverter systems are the most practical solution for renters.
Before you sign a lease in Sandton
Ask whether the specific unit has backup power and whether the building generator covers the unit or only common areas. Clarify this in writing before signing. Several premium buildings in Sandton charge a levy component that covers generator operation.
